Our Philosophy
Century Yuasa Batteries is Australia's oldest and largest manufacturer and distributor of automotive lead acid batteries, with a heritage of over 80 years. We are committed to a philosophy of cradle to grave manufacturing and will endeavour to take corporate leadership within the automotive industry on all areas of good product stewardship regarding the collection of lead acid batteries and the environment. Since 1928, Century Yuasa Batteries has supported the collection of scrap batteries for recycling. This continues today throughout the CenturyYuasa network across Australia. Century Yuasa Batteries product stewardship endeavors to have a ‘shared approach’ with our trading partners creating a “cradle to grave” philosophy for used lead acid batteries (ULAB). Century Yuasa is the only company in the battery industry with a dedicated distribution network of agents and company locations working to achieve our product stewardship policy for batteries sold. In 2008, CenturyYuasa Batteries established a recycling program that will ensure, through market information, that the reseller and consumer understands that used lead acid batteries (ULAB’s) are 98% recyclable. This program is based on a ‘shared approach’ with our trading partners; across the total supply channel and is supported through the establishment of designated recycle centres. The establishment of these recycling centres means the consumer can now dispose of used lead acid batteries (ULAB’s), with the added assurance that they will be recycled and processed in a responsible manner. This has a two-fold function, by way of reducing the risk of used lead acid batteries being disposed of irresponsibly, and providing a recyclable, renewable source of material for conversion into new batteries manufactured in Australia.
